Tentoonstelling: EXTRA MUROS: Visite Herzele – Voor(bij) woorden

Onder de noemer Visite organiseert het M HKA – in samenwerking met LOCUS, het steunpunt voor bibliotheken, cultuur- en gemeenschapscentra en lokaal cultuurbeleid – regelmatig tentoonstellingen buiten het museum. Het M HKA wil de muren van het museum openbreken en de dialoog aanwakkeren. Visite is meer dan een bruikleen: de komst van de werken van het M HKA naar de gemeenten vormt een aanleiding voor cultuurprofessionals en lokale besturen om een visie rond hedendaagse beeldende kunst uit te bouwen.
Van 04.04.20105 tot 26.04.2015 gingen een aantal sleutelwerken uit de M HKA-collectie naar Herzele. Vanuit de eigenheid van zowel de werken uit de M HKA-collectie, als de diverse locaties van de tentoonstelling, groeide een concept dat vertrok vanuit de relevantie en de betekenis van de kunstwerken. Hedendaagse kunst kan aangrijpend, afstotend, zintuiglijk of filosofisch zijn, maar nodigt bovenal uit tot communicatie.
Met kunst, dat in de eerste plaats een communicatiemiddel is, zijn woorden evident, maar niet altijd in eerste instantie. De eerste indruk gaat aan woorden en interpretatie vooraf, ze komt ‘voor woorden’. Wat we voelen bij een werk is vaak moeilijk helder te beschrijven, het gaat ‘voorbij woorden’. Dit alles werd gebundeld in de titel van de tentoonstelling: Voor(bij) woorden.
De campagne werd gevoerd aan de hand van een werk van Léa Lublin, waarbij ze via vragen verkende wat kunst kan zijn. Het is kunst met woorden, maar vooral ook met vraagtekens. De woorden lokken nieuwe woorden uit en tonen ons hoe ze vaak ook tekort schieten. De bron, namelijk de kunst zelf, gaat hieraan zowel vooraf als voorbij.
De tentoonstelling Voor(bij) woorden bracht werk samen van Vyacheslav Akhunov, Martin Arnold, Richard Baquié, Charif Benhelima, Fred Bervoets, Vaast Colson, Leo Copers, Luc Deleu, Marlene Dumas, Jef Geys, Mona Hatoum, Philip Huyghe, Ann Veronica Janssens, Léa Lublin, Danny Matthys, Bruce Nauman, Hans Op de Beeck, Ria Pacquée, Walter Swennen, Sven t’ Jolle, Christophe Terlinden, Ana Torfs, Koen van den Broek, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Ben Vautier, Franz West, Michael Witlatschil en Bill Woodrow.
