Lost space refers to individual works as well as to a bigger ensemble of works by Mees. They are divided in two groups: firstly, a group of works made with lace – at times also combined with neon lights -, made between 1960 and 1966. And secondly, still under the same title, works made in the eighties, made with colour paper pinned to the wall as relief’s. The 'lost space' from the title is that of the painting. It is a space which does not exist anymore, disintegrated to make place for a new kind of space. Mees’ works leave the wall and dialogue with their surroundings, as if they could emphasize the wall which is left behind.
