With this installation *East of Que Village*, Yang Fudong wants to create an image of contemporary rural China and especially of the day-to-day battle to survive in the midst of advancing merciless urbanisation. In this setting a group of dogs running wild is fighting to survive. At sporadic moments people can be perceived in the video images, involved in their own survival. The poetic work is a metaphor for the sense of isolation and desolation that the artists detects in present-day society.
