Jan Dries (b. 1925) is one of the few who goes beyond ceramics as an applied art and uses the medium to make expressive sculptures. Makes a break at the end of the 1950s with the baroque form-vocabulary and, starting from designs in plaster, makes rigorous and utterly simple sculptures chiselled and polished in white marble. These works often consist of various components that may be arranged in a variety of combinations.
