Painting, 157 x 121 cm.
Collection: Collection Verbaet, Belgium.
Van Anderlecht’s paintings are larger and faster than the few other products of ‘gestural’ art in Belgium. Enthusiasts for his work – Jean Dypréau, Philippe d’Arschot, Raoul Vaneigem – speak of passion, of dramatic, loud images, unambiguous signals of revolt. The abrupt, consciously applied paint strokes, concealing and transparent, lead to a compelling, total effect. As the painter himself puts it: *“It is humanity as a whole that makes our painting: through its obsessive questioning, it forces us to trace the image of its destiny. Passions and instincts are father to the crime… and to my painting.”*
