Bart Prinsen’s installation works focus on architecture and the urban landscape, and how its transformation and erasure relates to our experience of place and memory. Made using metal rod, they appear like floating drawing or blueprints of city zones. His new work Point of Convergence, made for the exhibition, depicts a certain area of a crossroads in Antwerp that Prinsen is familiar with, a particular landmark that has been partially erased and reconstructed over time, combining layers old and new. The ‘exploded’ view elucidates how different surfaces and layers come together to form our habitat. The title of the installation not only refers to this type of view, and it being a junction for traffic, but also to the fleeting incidents, interactions and encounters constantly taking place within our everyday urban reality.
