M HKA gaat digitaal

M HKA goes digital

Embracing the possibilities of new media, M HKA is making a particular effort to share its knowledge and give art the framework it deserves.

We are currently focusing on the experience in the museum with this application for smartphones and tablets. In the future this will also lead to a versatile desktop version, which is now still in its construction phase.

From 1961-62 the artist utilizes neon tubes for the first time – a material which will characterise all of her later work. Charmed by the lights and lit signboards of New York, she introduces the use of neon into a series of sculptures, the most emblematic of which being The Gates to Times Square (1964-66). She wants to convey the liveliness, constant motion, color, phantasmagorical atmosphere and multilingualism of the megalopolis. Her minimalist, wall-mounted sculptures of large dimensions, constructed mainly with neon, aluminum and steel, embody characteristic elements from her visual language, such as Chinese typography and calligraphy.
