Le M HKA souhaite être une maison ouverte pour les artistes. Ils peuvent non seulement disposer du musée pour y exposer, mais peuvent également interagir avec lui. Les artistes et leurs œuvres enrichissent le musée d’idées nouvelles, de liens de collaborations inédits et de propositions inattendues. Outre les possibilités rétrospectives d’une exposition, le M HKA part aussi en quête incessante de la vitalité et du potentiel prospectif de l’art.
Avec Vaast Colson et Kati Heck, le M HKA invite deux représentants importants de la nouvelle génération d’artistes anversois qui méritent d’être considérés comme des références. Avec deux expositions individuelles et un espace partagé, Show me yours & I’ll show you mine fait office d’instantané de l’œuvre des deux artistes avec lesquels le musée amorce un engagement durable.
En tant qu’artiste, Vaast Colson se positionne de manière directe face au spectateur à travers des dessins, des peintures, des sculptures, des performances, des installations et des interventions qui évoluent toujours à partir des situations spécifiques dans lesquelles les œuvres se réalisent. Pour cette exposition, Colson crée de nouvelles œuvres ou réinterprète des pièces existantes.
Les tableaux, sculptures et installations de Kati Heck témoignent à la fois d’un caractère étrange et d’un langage visuel éminemment personnel et reconnaissable. Aussi bien la culture populaire que ses propres expériences constituent une source d’inspiration. Au M HKA, Heck présente une rétrospective de son œuvre.
Show me yours & I’ll show you mine est plus qu’une double exposition individuelle : le lieu central où les deux artistes et leurs œuvres se rencontrent physiquement met en valeur la complexité de l’œuvre de chacun des deux. En même temps que le spectateur, nous nous laissons surprendre par les interventions et les performances qui prendront corps au cours de l’exposition. Ainsi, le M HKA espère acquérir des notions plus approfondies quant au sens de l’art aujourd’hui.
