Lives in Brugge (Belgium), works in Zwevezele (Belgium).
Robert Devriendt (b. 1955) is known for his meticulous small paintings. With a keen eye for detail, for tactile rendering and with a refined technique, he investigates how images work and how they come to be interpreted. He presents his work as filmic sequences in small series. The connection between the different paintings is never straightforward. It is only upon close inspection, and when we compare them and dare to associate freely, that the sequences reveal what we assume as their 'meaning'. With a typically photographic gaze, Devriendt paints from different camera angles (from panorama to close-up), depicting fragmentary representations of landscapes, persons, animals and objects.
