M HKA gaat digitaal

M HKA goes digital

Embracing the possibilities of new media, M HKA is making a particular effort to share its knowledge and give art the framework it deserves.

We are currently focusing on the experience in the museum with this application for smartphones and tablets. In the future this will also lead to a versatile desktop version, which is now still in its construction phase.

Maarten Vanden Abeele

° 1970

Born in Brussels (BE), lives in Paris (FR), lives in Brussels (BE).

The visual artist Maarten Vanden Abeele mainly concentrates on photography, but also makes video art and installations. He displays his photographs in series without an apparent basis in narrative or chronology. For the artist, the mutual connection becomes clearer the more photographs he takes. For the making of each individual image, Vanden Abeele is led by his intuition. He considers photographs as frozen images comprising a memory’s materialization. Still, his photographs do not immortalize anything: they never record a decisive moment, but only suggest the transitory, fleeting element of time. Both the subject and form of Vanden Abeele’s photographs regularly vary. He plays with format, color and focus, and shoots both landscapes and portraits, cityscapes and still lifes.
