Kein Gott [No God]

Sarenco

1968

Drawing, 29.4 x 21 cm.
Materials:

Collection: Collection M HKA, Antwerp (Inv. no. S0464_01).

Sarenco donated a series of early sketches of visual poems to the M HKA that he executed on a large scale and on canvas in the 1970s. They are characteristic of Sarenco’s use of word and image to address the viewer through all manner of associations and to demystify the coding of the political and cultural arena. Something he does with Baroque aggression and frequently insulting commentaries.

The sentence "Kein Gott" ("no god") is used by Sarenco in different artworks, like in the Poème gonfable ("inflatable poem") created by Sarenco in 1970.
