M HKA gaat digitaal

M HKA goes digital

Embracing the possibilities of new media, M HKA is making a particular effort to share its knowledge and give art the framework it deserves.

We are currently focusing on the experience in the museum with this application for smartphones and tablets. In the future this will also lead to a versatile desktop version, which is now still in its construction phase.

M HKA participated in the ongoing project On Translation: Warning, and put together a small commitee to talk about the best Flemish translation of the sentence "Warning: Perception requires involvement". We decided on "Waarschuwing: Kijken verlangt engagement" and agreed with Antoni Muntadas to spread a sticker version during the exhibition "Antoni - Muntadas - Alles is politiek". On Translation is an ensemble of projects which despite their diversity of data, geographical locations and subject matter, all take as starting point an interest to examine how information is filtered and interpreted through a separate event, site or system as, for example, in the case of a museum or an interview but likewise via the leitmotif of applause or the banking board room. A long-term component project On Translation: Warning, is a collection of architectural interventions and prints with the slogan Warning: perception requires involvement. A catchphrase meant to caution us vis-à-vis the invisible mechanisms that lurk behind media production and consumption, politics, advertising or other incursions into our daily lives, while also calling for our own personal participation and engagement, something the artist himself sees as a main priority.

>Image of the book "Muntadas: m/m". Signals, symbols, codes and pictures on television, newspapers, mobile phones, internet and even in the street, this is our life in the new era. This mix is part of our unreal communication system nowadays. Under a cover in red and white letters, "Muntadas: m/m" alerts about the perception like a double-edged sword. This publication is made by cuts that Muntadas collected in the media world , sometimes images, sometimes text, sometimes computer codes, building an incoherent structure of elements removed from their original context. He picks up parts of photos or parts of sentences leaving them without message, denying their informative and communicative task.
