Coulommier (b. 1922) quite early on begins making experimental photographs, in the perspective of Otto Steinert’s subjektive fotografie. In 1957 he organizes, together with Serge Vandercam, the important exhibition images inventées at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. About his own work, he says: ‘I consider photography not as an end in itself, but rather as a strongly artisanal means of expression, an independent graphic art process with boundless possibilities.’
