Tant (de) pis de tâches de titre(s), L’Envers du Décor is a monumental blue book, in which the artist’s image-stream from his years of slide-documentation is driven to a climax. The publication sprang from the project The Quest, a labyrinthine total-installation developed by Honoré d’O for the Flemish Community in the Belgian pavilion of the 2005 Venice Biënnale. Tant (de) pis is a text- and image story that spans over 800 pages. It is a whole of diverse images that unrolls before the viewer’s eyes, always in a different form. The images vary from large to small, in ever-changing combinations. The images’ significance is never fixed; they are in rhythm with the movement of the pages and the eyes of the viewer. The accompanying DVD turns the static given that a book remains more-or-less as it is, into an unceasing flow of movement. The book can be described as the artist’s mental travel-journal, as well as his critical commentary upon the place of word and image in our society.
