Over a period of time, Matta-Clark made numerous photographs of exposed walls in buildings that had been partially torn down around the city of New York, revealing their internal structure, rooms and coloration. He printed these images on a newspaper offset press in soft-coloured hues, recycling urban decay into decorative beauty. Mounted on the wall the sheets resembled wallpaper; on the floor newspaper: the title refers to both aspects.
