Prime 5 8 6 is one of New Order’s early tracks made with experiments using electronics, and is thought to have set the blueprint for their future dance-oriented tracks such as Blue Monday. This video was specifically made by band member Stephen Morris for display at the opening of the Haçienda nightclub in 1982. The track is also known as Video 5 8 6.
Following the suicide of vocalist Ian Curtis, the remaining members of post-punk group Joy Division went on to form the new wave band New Order in 1980. They were the most prominent band on Manchester’s Factory Records label run by impresario Tony Wilson, with whom they went on to run the legendary Haçienda nightclub. Their 1983 record “Blue Monday” took influence from the emerging dance music scene in the US, and became the best selling 12-inch record in history. New Order’s music, as well as their role at the Haçienda, helped make electronic dance music more widespread in the UK. The original members were Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert. Hook left the band somewhat acrimoniously in 2007. The now-classic New Order record sleeves were designed by renowned designer Peter Saville.
