The project The AUDMCRS Underground Dance Music Collection of Recorded Sound, 2011–2012, is an archive of 839 12” trance records acquired from the DJ Joshua Ryan. When exhibited, people are free to listen to the records and to look at the database providing information on each of them. All records are catalogued in the MARC standard as specified by the United States Library of Congress. A Library of Congress study also states that a vinyl record will last for approximately 100 years, meaning this ‘old’ format will probably last longer than those that succeeded it, such as CDs, digital files and hard drives. The work considers the personal obsessions for collecting items, particularly those that have a value within niche communities, such as vinyl records in music subculture. Information on the entire archive for this project can also be seen at: http://audmcrs.coryarcangel.com.
