In 2012, the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp celebrated it’s 25the birthday. We celebrated this with collection presentations about the work of Gordon Matta-Clark, Antoni Muntadas, ORLAN, Guillaume Bijl and Paul De Vree.
The selected ensembles of works all pre-dated the opening of the museum in 1987, signifying that the period of the M HKA collection is greater than the museum’s history, and the institutional history also includes the I.C.C. (International Cultural Centre), which resulted in the M HKA and whose archives the latter inherited. The relationship of the five ensembles with I.C.C. are very direct. With Collection XXXI: 5 ensembles, 25 years M HKA, the museum wanted to bring its long-term responsibility as a museum to the fore.
