Pieter Laurens Mol

° 1946

Born in Breda (Netherlands), lives in Amsterdam (Netherlands), works in Amsterdam (Netherlands).

In the 1960s and ’70s Dutch photographer Pieter Laurens Mol was a commercial photographer. In his work he often addresses cosmological realities.

Mol is interested in science, and especially in the power of gravity, which is obvious in his ‘photo sculptures’, named after the spatial sensations they provoke. He regards his photographs as real-life manifestations of spiritual space travel.

Titles are important in Mol’s universe. Sometimes they are decided before the work they name, as a thought that creates the opportunity to visualise something. Sometimes they are devised to fit already existing works. In both cases, titles are more than a significant detail. Without them, Mol says, the works could not exist.
