Deniz Gül's practice is mainly as a conceptual sculptor and a writer. The entirety of Gül’s oeuvre is about language, surface and excavation. For her, a show begins with a text: "5 Person Buffet," her 2011 show at ARTER, featured her book of the same title. This prose later got performed in Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago in 2015 with five musicians. Two years later, her Gallery Mana show B.I.M.A.B.K.R., again featured a book authored by Gül and rendered into English by Nevzat Erkmen, the legendary Turkish translator of James Joyce's Ulysses. Gül’s exhibitions and books are parts of an ongoing thinking that takes shape in each project and are in dialogues with each other. Loyelow, her latest solo which took place at the Pill (Istanbul) in 2016 was received with her novel of the same name. Deniz Gül's work is featured in institutional exhibitions such as the Istanbul Biennial, the Sharjah Biennial, and other art venues such as Arter, Framer Framed and Badischer Kunstverein. Her work belongs to the collections of Sharjah Art Institute, JP Morgan, and Arter. She has been featured in Artnet News, Frieze Magazine, the Financial Times and Art in America.
