Born in Lokeren (Belgium), died in Ghent (Belgium).
For Dan Van Severen, each work is a step toward a lofty goal. Everything is part of a quest for the essential: austere compositions based on various motifs that become purified into a central cross, as both the point of departure and the endpoint, carried out in a limited colour range with subtle shades of whites and greys. Van Severen is a romantic or a symbolist rather than an abstract artist.
