V–A–C Foundation and M HKA engage in a longer-term collaboration by supporting the work of contemporary Russian artists in a variety of way. V–A–C wants to enhance the presence of leading Russian artists, of different generations, in selected European museum collections. M HKA exhibits and collects works by artists from Russia and other countries of the former USSR. The museum focuses on ‘Eurasia’, thereby contributing to the geographic diversity of collecting and programming.

The 2014 edition of the Present Continuous programme invited five Russian curators: Yulia Aksenova, Katerina Chuchalina, Ekaterina Inozemtseva, Andrey Parshikov, and Elena Yaichnikova, to nominate two young Russian artists each. After bringing the nominees to the table, the group had shortlisted four finalists: Evgeny Granilschikov, Andrey Kuzkin, Taus Makhacheva, and Urban Fauna Lab Collective, whose work was presented at the Cosmoscow art fair in Moscow. A jury consisting of V-A-C Director Teresa Iarocci Mavica, M HKA Director Bart De Baere, and guest jury member Lorenzo Benedetti, director of the Art Center De Vleeshal in Middelburg, the Netherlands, chose Taus Makhacheva as the winning artist, and her artworks TightropeWay of an Object, and Landscape eventually went to the M HKA Collection.
